JAGUA BODY ART
Deep indigo body art with a tattoo-like edge

Jagua is for those who are drawn to darker, more graphic temporary body art.
Its colour develops gradually into deep blue and indigo tones, often creating a remarkably tattoo-like effect.
From delicate linework and geometric designs to illustration, botanical pieces and larger compositions, jagua offers a completely different visual language from henna.
Temporary, versatile and made for experimenting.

WHAT IS JAGUA?
Not henna – and not a permanent tattoo
Jagua is a naturally derived skin stain made from the fruit of Genipa americana, a tree native to Central and South America.
Rather than sitting on the surface of the skin like conventional paint, jagua temporarily stains its upper layers. Once developed, the result is a distinctive blue to deep indigo colour that can look remarkably similar to a permanent tattoo.
The colour does not appear immediately. After the product is removed, the design may initially look extremely faint, then gradually darken over the following 24–48 hours.
Jagua is not black henna, and it is not a permanent tattoo.
It is a body-art medium in its own right, with its own character and possibilities.
WHAT CAN YOU CREATE WITH JAGUA?

minimal & fineline
Delicate lines, small details and understated compositions with plenty of negative space.

GEOMETRIC & GRAPHIC
Clean shapes, structured linework, symmetry and bold contrasts.

illustrative
Drawings, characters, artistic references and designs that feel more like illustration on skin.

ORGANIC
Florals, botanical forms and compositions that flow naturally with the body.

CELESTIAL & MYSTICAL
Moons, stars, symbolism and darker, more mystical designs.

PLAYFUL & CUSTOM
Favourite characters, fandoms, strange ideas and anything that would simply be fun to wear for a while.
TEMPORARY TATTOO WITHOUT THE NEEDLE
A tattoo-like look that doesn’t stay forever

Once fully developed, jagua’s deep indigo colour can look surprisingly similar to a permanent tattoo.
It can be an interesting way to explore a motif or placement, wear something striking for a special occasion, or simply enjoy body art with a darker, more contemporary character for a while.
But jagua is more than a “trial tattoo”. It is a body-art technique in its own right, with its own possibilities and limitations – from subtle fine-line pieces to bold graphic and illustrative designs.

WHY EXPERIENCE MATTERS
Jagua leaves less room for correction
Working with jagua requires precision and confident control of the material. Once the staining compounds make sufficient contact with the skin, they may leave a mark – which means a misplaced line or smudged detail cannot always simply be wiped away and redrawn.
A good result therefore relies on more than drawing ability.
Consistency of the material, pressure control, confident linework, thoughtful placement and an understanding of how jagua behaves during application and colour development all matter.
Every design is created by hand, so small variations are a natural part of body art. Experience is not a promise of absolute perfection. It means greater control, considered planning and confident execution when working with a medium that allows relatively little room for correction.

NEM CSAK KÉZRE

Placement is as much a part of the design as the motif itself.
One of the most exciting things about jagua is the way it can develop strong colour across many areas of the body.
This gives us much more freedom to think about scale, shape and placement. A long vertical composition can follow the line of an arm or lower leg, while larger graphic or organic pieces can work beautifully across the shoulder, back or thigh.
Smaller motifs can find their place almost anywhere.
I always adapt the composition to the proportions and natural lines of the area being painted.
The same motif can feel completely different on a hand, forearm, shoulder or back.

Jagua takes time to reveal itself
With jagua, finishing the application is only the beginning.
Once the product is removed, the design can appear extremely pale – sometimes almost as if nothing has happened at all.
Over the following hours, the colour gradually emerges and deepens, typically reaching its characteristic blue to deep indigo tone within 24–48 hours.
It is one of the most fascinating things about jagua: the same design can look completely different immediately after removal and a day or two later.
Don’t worry if your design looks barely visible at first – jagua needs time to develop.
HENNA + JAGUA

Two colours in one composition
Henna and jagua do not always have to be used separately.
The warm reddish-brown tones of henna and the cool indigo of jagua create a striking contrast, opening up possibilities that neither material offers in quite the same way on its own.
The two colours can define separate motifs, create layers and focal points, or become an integral part of the composition itself.
I particularly enjoy designs where henna and jagua are not simply placed next to each other, but where their different colours and characters actively shape the finished piece.

JAGUA for your event
Something different...
Jagua can be a distinctive addition to events looking for something more contemporary and tattoo-inspired than traditional temporary body art.
It works particularly well at corporate events, festivals, cultural and themed events, as well as private celebrations.
The design selection and setup are tailored to the character of the event, guest numbers and the time available. For larger events, I can also work with a coordinated team of artists.

temporary, yet meaningful
That is part of the fun. Jagua gives you room to experiment.
Try a motif you have always been curious about.
Play with an unexpected placement.
Wear something dark and graphic, delicate and minimal, artistic, playful – or simply a little strange.
It does not have to be a lifelong decision.
CURIOUS HOW IT WOULD LOOK ON YOU?
Whether you already have a finished design or just the beginning of an idea, send it my way and we can explore how it could work with jagua.
